An interactive Zoom series created by the New Jersey Self-Advocacy Project
as part of our Healthy Lifestyles Project

The New Jersey Self-Advocacy Project team is excited to introduce our new interactive series of Zoom events! These are live, interactive events to promote good health.

We will be holding events on Zoom every Wednesday at 11AM and Friday at 1PM on a variety of topics relating to healthy living, and some events will feature guest speakers who will lend their expertise.

Live viewers will be able to share comments, ask questions, and participate in real time. Please share your video and follow along to make this a true interactive experience!

These events are intended for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The NJ Self-Advocacy Project reserves the right to take and use photographs, video, and electronic images of attendees at its agency-sponsored events for promotional and educational purposes. By registering, you consent to having your photo taken for promotional purposes.

Each Zoom event will be a unique, online experience, so don't to miss out!

"Healthy Lifestyles Project LIVE" is part of our Healthy Lifestyles Project (HLP).

HLP is a program of The Arc of New Jersey and receives funding through a grant awarded by The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey.

The NJSAP Team will be showing a few short films from SproutFlix! After watching, we'll have a discussion of the films we've watched.

Sproutflix hosts the largest and most diverse collection of films featuring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) on the marketplace. With over 280 titles, Sproutflix hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of individuals within this community, help breakdown stereotypes and promote a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities. Advocacy or Not Advocacy? You Decide!

Presented by Sorretie Jaro, a self-advocate from Washington State, this activity will focus on examples of practicing your advocacy skills in your everyday life. Unique case examples will be discussed and we will decide as a group on the best way to put our advocacy skills into action! This is a great opportunity for new and seasoned advocates to brainstorm ways to advocate in different areas of life.

Sorretie Jaro is a self-advocate from Spokane. WA. Sorretie is passionate about advocacy and believes that everyone has the right to learn how to use their skills for a reason, whether it be sticking up for yourself and fighting for change to make the world a better place for everybody to live.

Look Who’s Dancing, a company founded by 2 nurses, is excited to bring their adaptive dance and exercise program to HLP: Live!

The unique and forward looking program was created to bring dance and exercise to those individuals who are often overlooked in the fitness industry. This includes but is not limited to people with physical, cognitive, behavioral health, mental health, weight, and aging challenges. Their programs are designed with the flexibility to adapt to each client or group’s specific needs.

Deliciously Nutritious: Identifying Healthy Food

Diet is just as important as exercise in living a healthy life! A guest presenter Lisa LaMarca from In Home Personal Training (IHT) will be presenting a nutrition class on healthy foods. The class will explore the meaning and benefits of a well balanced diet relating to improving general health and energy in our daily busy lives.

Lisa has always been passionate about helping others with their personal health goals. Growing up in a health "club" envirnoment, she was exposed to exercise and wellness at a very young age, often assisting her mother with exercise classes. She has coached a Master's Swim Team, taught Bootcamp classes, personal trained with various populations and conducted nutrition/healthy eating seminars, weight loss challenges and workshops. She is a graduate of Montclair State University with a BS in Food and Nutrition and Texas Tech University with an MS in Food and Nutrition. Lisa is also a certified Health Coach with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN). A strong believer in perseverance, Lisa enjoys supporting and motivating her clients to meet their goals, both long and short terms goals. She looks forward to meeting new people and learning their stories!

Matt Locascio returns for another fitness session! This event will explore ways to stay in shape at home. Matt will be focusing on body weight exercises.

"My goal of the training sessions are to help people understand that they can improve their quality of life by focusing on overall wellness. Physical well-being is an excellent starting point towards living a healthier lifestyle."

Matt is the owner of IHT (In-Home Training LLC). Matt has been working with North Jersey residents in exercise prescription and fitness training for over 10 years!
