Music to My Ears: A Collaborative Song-Writing Session
Join guest presenter Dori Stern, a certified musical therapist, in a fun and interactive musical experience that allows participants to engage in a variety of musical activities. She will lead the group in stretching and dancing along with the music. She will also discuss the benefits of songwriting, following up with easy steps to writing your own song. The session will end in a simple closing song that gives everyone a chance to say goodbye.
Dori Stern is a board certified music therapist who currently works at a center for children and adults with special needs in Manhattan. Previously, Dori worked in various special education settings as an educator and musician before embarking on a graduate degree in music therapy. As a music therapy student, she interned at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, working with children ranging in age from 4 - 18. Dori gained experience working with adults in a nursing and rehabilitation center and in an inpatient-psych unit. She also feels lucky to have the personal experience of being the big sister of a Special Olympics NY state champion.
