6:00 pm7:00 pm

At the age of 18 students are considered the age of majority. Being an adult comes with many rights, responsibilities, and decision-making. Is your student ready? Are you as the parent/guardian ready? Creating a plan for the future is vital. The purpose of this workshop is to educate families who have a loved one with a significant disability about the importance of understanding the roles that Guardianship, legal alternatives, and supported decision-making play in ensuring the individual’s uninterrupted support and quality of life. Join us as Ellen Nalven, Executive Director, Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of New Jersey, Inc. (PLAN|NJ) will educate families of people with disabilities to promote choice and control of decisions for their loved ones while also trying to ensure safety from harm. This session defines guardianship and alternative legal protections, supported decision-making, and considerations when determining what legal options may be best to support individuals.
